Slaughterloo Painting Challenge (73 days remaining)

Nothing like jumping in at the deep end to motivate yourself! Wanting to get a game in at the weekend with a good buddy, I realised that the first Saturday I had free was 19th July we decided to make the most of the time and plan something which would require a little preparation!

As we have both recently become fans of Flintloque, we decided it would be a good opportunity to go a little bigger and play some Slaughterloo. Great idea, although I've just realised how much painting I need to get done. Hence the challenge!

We opted for small 1000 point armies to get us going and I quickly figured out what I could use from my collection for a Ferach force. Looks like it will be a bit of a split between Elves and Todoroni, which suites me fine

Here's a picture of the Todoroni contingent of my force:

  • 7 light infantry
  • 8 Militia
  • 1 Light Gun with 6 crew.

So at the moment it is looking like a force just wanting to be swept from the field by any reasonably trained enemy...

Here's the Ferach contingent:

  • 12 Line infantry
  • 10 Line infantry (actually Light, but they will do alternative duties for this game)
  • 12 Light infantry
  • 3 Heavy Cavalry (to be expanded to the minimum 5 by my next purchase)

So all in all an almighty shambles of a force! This should be fun!

On the plus side, it doesn't require a massive outlay in advance of the game. Just a couple of cavalry and a general should do, although I can see myself opting for some additional Line infantry or a better cannon!

I'll report on my progress as I go and post pictures of units as and when they are completed.

  2. very impressive and good luck --- but i would recomend for gameplay terms larger line/militia units becuase in slaughterloo the amount of models firing is very important even at close range 8 toad militia will not actually kill anything so they are wasted points, but if you add the lights to the militia that gives you a unit of 15 which is a much more effective size plus i really urge you to add the following 3 packs to your army 51019, (which provides you with a good sargeant model) 51020 which will give you 4 models in greatcoats to mix up the unit look a bit and finally 51029 which will give you a general and a eagle bearer and drummer for your line unit also consider the 51501 5 model pack which will put your unit to 8 and provide a officer and standard (so only a 2 man pack to finish)

    1. Hi Elton. Thanks for your advice. All sensible stuff! And I really like the look of those packs you've suggested. I'll see how my 'lead budget' is looking!

    2. i recognise several packs but they are not complete do you you know what happened to the other models? -- for example you have the 51006 7th command of the gaurd http://www.alternative-armies.com/51006_7th_Command_of_the_Guarde_(Elves).htm i can see the first 2 models but not the last 2 --- the reason i mention it is everybody has some spare models knocking about they can convert or decapitate

    3. My collection consists of the Catalucia Shilling Service Pack figures, several more packs I bought along with it and some eBay purchases. The only incomplete pack is the one you point out. The Officer of the Garde is out of shot, but I have it. The only missing one is the spy from that pack. The pictures are pretty much all my Elves and Todoroni, I'll probably do similar posts for my Grand Alliance figures if this project goes well!

      Thanks
      Chris

    4. the officer of the garde is a very nice model because it has a shamrock on the crossbelt plate its the recommended model if you want to add a unit of qiunelan legion or the spanish "gardia real qiunelea" on another subnote the officer of the giunelan legion command pack is in my opinion the best light infantry officer in the range (especialy with the obvious dagger down his tall boot)

    5. Oh boy. I really want a unit of those Bog Orcs now!!!

    6. well i use my version of the giunelan officer to lead the wild elf unit the gardia are on the allied side but there is the ferach giunelan legion if you get the unit box you can swap the spare officer for the officer of the garde and use the elf officer in the set for a future unit of either wild elves like me or chassuers of the garde (or for that matter he would make a relly good guerilla leader) -------- but as you can see all of the above ideas is how especially with distinctive game like flintloque/slaughterloo is how your armies grow like mould ---- :)

also when you do units i recomend for a combination of ease of moveing a unit in slaughterloo and still allowing for flintloque play choose to either base 11 of them singly put on a "3" man base and then have 2 "2" man bases or have 11 or have 3 "3" man bases

    7. Thanks for the advice on the figures, very interesting.

I'll stick to individual basing as I've been basing my 28s like that for years. I only like basing multiples for my 15mm stuff.

  4. oops i forgot to add that if you buy those 3 suggested packs you will get enough to finish your line unit and filter 2 of them into your voltiguers it will complete both units, i dont know your skill level with green but i can take you through the process of recreating the tall voltiguer plume if you want --------- after i have posted here i will make post my voltiguers unit on my blog to ilestrate how various models from differant packs can be integrated with little work.

    1. Thanks, Gavin. I've had an unexpected number of responses to this post, here, on TMP and on the Notables Yahoo Group! Guess that's just the kind of enthusiastic people Flintloque/Slaughterloo players are!
